Beating The Bad Weather With Bingo

As the worst snow fall for thirty years affects Britain, increasing numbers of people are taking official advice and opting to avoid any non-essential travel. Yet it is online bingo, particularly free bingo, rather than the television, to which people are turning to stave off the boredom of being stuck indoors.

Whilst the decline in bingo admissions has been a continuing trend, it’s popularity has not waned due to the expansion of the online game. Overall, online playing numbers increased by 3% in 2009, with a 6% increase in the last three months of the year as the nights drew in and the air turned chilly.

To aid matters, during the last five years there has been a marked increase in the number of websites that offer online bingo services. As this competition has burgeoned, the offers available to players have proliferated. Suddenly there are increasing incentives to play, with account bonuses doubling new deposits, offering free sums to join, free bets, free games plus a number of other incentives. The free-to-play services also allow players to sample the game before depositing any funds so they may be sure of their footing, unlike on the footpaths outside!

Although the face-to-face interaction and general buzz of the bingo hall is lost, sites provide chat functions which allow bingo communities to spring up online. This is a popular way of continuing the social aspect of bingo without the danger of crashing or slipping on the way to the hall.

Many players arrange themselves in groups, usually organised by a group leader who, having discovered a site that he or she has enjoyed, gathers the group to the site where they can still swap banter as they would on a normal bingo evening.

Bingo is not the only popular pastime to suffer due to the worsening weather. Sports and leisure centres across the country have closed, cancelling millions of games of not only traditionally outdoor games such as football and rugby but also indoor sports.

As the Met Office is predicting that the bad weather is going to persist in the coming days this trend appears likely to continue. As councils across the land wait for a delivery from overseas of gritting salt the transport systems are set to struggle through the icy period. Luckily, all people need in order to keep themselves entertained is broadband connections and high spirits.
